Not to long ago I found an old comic i drew and decided it would be fun to re draw it...some folks (very few) actually like the old one better let me know what you think

So, the conceptart.org character of the week is Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. The requirements are to have her in both mermaid for and maiden form. I decided to draw both versions, color them, then composite them together.
Broke out the inking pens for these two because I wanted clean scans to color...my sketchbook is hugs, though, so the maiden part I had to tilt and even then, there's shadow on the scan :( I come to find out that I'm a really cowardly inker ever since I stopped using rapidographs back in '01. This really felt like I was just tracing...

Anyway, I rarely do this, but I just started doodling out of the blue. wanted to draw something like an ogre, no real purpose and its not thought out at all, just "Lets draw a horn...Oh, attach it to a fat dood!"
Finally, the other day I organized a gathering of local artists to get together at Barnes & Nobles for drawing. The only person who showed up was this girl, Sue. We exchanged sketchbooks while making smalltalk, but once that was done, we got down to drawing... The girl was a monster! It was exactly like when Frieza's thugs saw Goku and their power meter eye-pieces blew up, except that instead of Ki, it was drawing energy. What a blast! She was just plowing away, and the drawings were good, too! This went on for hours, we're drawing and chatting about the animation industry and such. I noticed that the things she drew were VERY random, so I asked "What's that there" and it was like she'd come out of this trance and say something like "Oh! Um...I guess I was drawing a hand".

If I can only use her power for good.

Here are a few more :P

My Wife is a Gangster - This poster kicks so much ass. The RBW scheme is really intense.
Interview With the Vampire - This poster really captures the subtlety of the movie with the thin serif font and the earthtones... Pay no attention to the HUGE Tom Cruise in the background. A star of that calibre needed top billing for a role like this.
Harry Potter 5 - This poser is EXACTLY as spooky as the book reads. I think it hit fans a lot harder than the people who hadn't read the books, but I can't be sure.
Old Boy - This one's brilliant. I wonder how the designer explain the layout... "Well, I want to have the title in the middle of the poster, but vertically so it leads your eye down to the actors".
Batman Mask of the first good superhero movie - I just like the way the negative space between the masks makes a sort of batman silouhette. Also, I think this is the only batman movie that doesn't use the logo... Like, you're supposed to like it even if you're not a fan of Batman.
Who framed Roger Rabbit - Another one that's just layed out cool/
Amelie - vibrant color balance without being abrasive. Also...Audrey Tatou's adorable.
Fight Club - This poster's really cool, but becomes ten times cooler after you see the movie. I didn't read the book until way later, so I wonder how the fans felt when they saw this for the first time.

10 Cool Movie Posters

These are 10 posters that all grabbed me in some way not all are my favs but still cool

1. The Day After Tomorrow- This incredible poster had me wondering all the way to opening day what could of happened? Nuclear War? Natural Disaster? Etc?

2. Dream Girls- This poster makes me feel like I'm back in one of the old cotton clubs in Harlem...add the pink light and slightly silhouetted sexy figures and you've got yourself a top notch poster

3. Friday The 13th- This has got to be the most boss Jason poster I've came across if i never saw a Friday the 13th this poster would trick me into thinking they were actually good

4. A Nightmare On Elm Street- Not a good horror poster but man what an awesome composition...even as a youngster this pic made me want to draw, looking at it now is no different, the placement of the metallic claws, the big glowing eyes and pouty lips of the victim simply JAWESOME!!!!

5. Platoon- Too many reasons why this poster rocks...Did he lose his comrades to combat? Is He praying to god in his final Moments? Is he asking for help? When you see the movie and find out that this incredible composition is a screenshot from the film itself it makes it stand out so much more

6. Premonition- I 1st saw this in the hallway at work and was like damn that's creative...I still don't care to see the movie but damn this composition almost got me

7. Spiderman 3- No logo, no text, just the number 3 and a brooding fallen from grace spiderman this poster gave off a tone so dark you couldn't help but to find out what Hollywood was going to do with/to your favorite neighborhood webslinger in this movie

8&9. The Dark Night- These posters speak for themselves the burning bat symbol on the smoldering building and the fearless batman standing in front of it followed by falling debris gets u pumped I actually want to go out and kick ass after seeing this...The Joker Version has what I like To call Ultimate villain swagger, the stance the suit he's the Criminal all the lil hoods look up too

10. Conan- This be a manly poster by Crom...Looking at this makes me want to drink trashcan size glasses of bear, eat mutton chops, and go out on army slayin adventures with 2 buxom vixens who sleep with me in between fights to replenish my health...kinda like 300 without all the oil and extra men...

Animation linkuuuuuuuu!

So while waiting on yet another new scanner, I've been killing time catching up on movies. The new Miyazaki film "Ponyo on the cliff by the sea" was brilliant. I got to talking about it on drawingboard.org and posted the trailer, and a Ghibli museum short... I don't know how to link videos on blogspot, so just use this "NEW GHIBLI STUFF"

I'm watching the new Star Wars movie, and replying to this guy about Ponyo when I stumbled on to this "WTF?!?"
I'm sure Herny brought this G.I.Joe thing up in a jumbled conversation about webcomics and butt-jigglin', but who knew it could actually look good?

Chibi Nightcrawler

Because someone requested it: here is my version of chibi Nightcrawler. I wanted to do something playful and for some reason, I thought an apple would be so cute. You know, I think I was thinking about an old Pokemon episode where Picachu had this bottle of ketchup that he really loved... I can't recall, but it was so cute. Any who, enjoy!
